Dr. Richard Keiper, 97, WWII vet, chiropractor

Dr. Richard Jacob Keiper, 97, devoted husband of Helen Hernley Keiper, went home to be with his loving Lord Monday, May 27, 2013 at the Mennonite Home in Lancaster.

He was born in Ephrata Feb. 14, 1916 to the late Alvin Wesley Keiper and Mary Oberholtzer Fahnestock Keiper. He graduated from Ephrata High School, Lebanon Valley College and Palmer College of Chiropractic.

He was a United States Army Veteran of WW II.

Dr. Keiper began his chiropractic practice in 1938 at 26 E. High St., Elizabethtown, which he continued for 63 years.

He was a member of Elizabethtown Mennonite Church, Elizabethtown Chamber of Commerce and the Chiropractic Society of Lancaster County.

He was the widower of Sara M. (Achenbach) Keiper.

He is the beloved father of: Lisa Jo, wife of James Funk; and Richard Jay Keiper. He is the adored grandfather of: Jim Funk and wife Dawn; Jeff Funk and wife Kristen; Amanda and Thad Jackson; and Ashley and Jeb Malcolm and the treasured great-grandfather of: Collin, Sarah and Ewan Funk.

In addition, he is survived by stepchildren: Donald and Elizabeth Hernley; Lois Summers; Phyllis Moyer; David and Renee Hernley; Dale and Lois Hernley; step grandchildren: Stacey and Rick Reichert; Joel and Stephanie Hernley; Chris Hernley; Judy and John Galati, III; Paul Hernley; Lauren Hernley; John Hernley; Kari and Matt Zimmerman; Mark and Julie Moyer; Jay and Emily Hernley; Travis Hernley; step great-grandchildren: Mike and Miranda Stepp; Owen and Kyle Zimmerman; John Galati IV; Zeka Moyer and Lexi Hernley.

His trust and love of our Lord Jesus Christ was reflected in his interactions with everyone he met. He will be sadly missed by his family.

Funeral services were held on June 1 at the Elizabethtown Mennonite Church with Pastor Conrad Kanagy officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Ephrata.
