Donald H. Strohl, 82, was Dutchmaid foreman, coach of midget-midget baseball

Donald H. Strohl, 82, of Ephrata, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2013, peacefully at home with family by his side.

He was born in Berks County to the late Evan and Ella (Showalter) Strohl. He is survived by his loving wife, Laura G. (Engle) Strohl, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.

Don was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church, Ephrata, where he served as a trustee and usher. He worked in the garment industry as a foreman for the former Dutchmaid, Inc. for 33 years and later at B&J Mfg. Most recently, he worked part time for Nolt's Auto Parts. He was a member of the Ephrata Masonic Lodge #665 F.&A.M. An avid hunter, he was a member of NORKA Hunting Club in Potter County. Don enjoyed snowmobiling, boating, loved playing baseball and fast pitch softball into his upper 30s, coached Ephrata midget-midget baseball teams, bowled in several leagues at Dutch Lanes, and was a long-time fan of the Phillies and the Eagles.

His life revolved around his family. He faithfully followed his sons and grandchildren in their sports and activities. He enjoyed 40 years of summers in Sea Isle City with his family. Don will be remembered and missed dearly by his beloved family.

In addition to his wife, Don is survived by two sons: James R., husband of Bonnie (Book) Strohl of Akron; William S., husband of Diane (Wolf) Strohl of Reinholds; four grandchildren: Matthew, husband of Elaine (Thompson) Strohl of Plymouth Meeting; Bryan, husband of Nicole (Gaskill) Strohl of Ephrata; Danielle, wife of Jason Habecker of Talmage; and Morgan Fox of Texas; four great-grandchildren: Andrew, Zachary, Trey and Trenton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Robert Strohl.

A viewing was held June 9 at the Hope United Methodist Church, Ephrata, followed by a Masonic service. An additional viewing was held June 10 at the church, followed by his funeral service with Pastor James Garner officiating. Interment took place in the Fairview Cemetery, Denver.
