Douglas J. Beam, born in Ephrata, terminal manager

Douglas J. Beam, 52, of Morgantown, died peacefully at his home Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013 after a two-year battle with cancer.

Doug was born in Ephrata and raised in Elverson. He was the son of Titus and Violet (Lauver) Beam of Elverson, and was married 30 years Aug. 6 to Bonnie (Naugle) Beam.

Doug graduated from Lancaster Mennonite High School in 1979, and he worked alongside his wife Bonnie for the past 30 years at Erb Transport in Elverson as terminal manager. He was a member of Conestoga Mennonite Church where he served previously as a trustee and youth leader. Doug enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, and riding his motorcycle.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are two daughters: Samantha, married to Scott McLelland of Belmont, Mass., and Cassandra Beam of Philadelphia and two brothers: William, married to Robin (Lusky) Beam of Elverson and Brian, married to Karlene (Weaver) Beam of Chicago, Ill.

Funeral services were held Dec. 21 at Conestoga Mennonite Church, Morgantown, with the Reverend Robert Petersheim officiating. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery.
