David M. Hess, 95, formerly of Akron, went to be with Jesus Friday, Dec. 27, 2013 at Landis Homes.
He was married 68 years to the late Ruth B. Hess who passed away in August of 2013. He was the oldest living member of Akron Mennonite Church. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of David and Lydia (Buckwalter) Hess. He was a hosiery knitter and then was employed at Victor Weaver as a supervisor in the cut-up department. David repaired and refinished furniture and was well known for his excellent work. He enjoyed music, singing and playing the harmonica, most of all he loved his family and was always available to help them in time of need.
David was preceded in death by his brother: John and sister: Ruth Shank and daughter: Phyllis Gorno. He is survived by a sister: Rhoda Lind and five children: David of Gravenhurst, Ontario, Canada; James, husband of Diana of Ephrata; Daniel of Reading; Cheryl, wife of Clyde Erb of Millersville and John, husband of Sharon of Manheim. He has 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at the Akron Mennonite Church, Akron, Jan. 2 with Pastor Jim S. Amstutz and Pastor Michelle Dula officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
