Edwin H. Sauder, 87, of Ephrata, formerly of East Earl, died Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Lincoln Christian Home in Ephrata after a lengthy illness.
Born in Brecknock Township, he was the son of the late Charles and Eva (Horning) Sauder. He was married 65 years on Sept. 27 to Dorothy (Wise) Sauder.
Edwin owned and operated C.E. Sauder & Sons in East Earl for many years.
He was a member of Lichty's Mennonite Church where he taught Sunday school for many years. During WWII he served with Civilian Public Service in Virginia and California. He also volunteered at Christian Aid Ministries in Ephrata and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at his cabin in Tioga County.
Surviving in addition to his wife are eight children: Louis, married to Velma (Ressler) Sauder of Leola; Geraldine, married to Ron High of New Holland; Brenda, married to Jim Lusby, Sr. of East Earl; Judi, married to Ron Stauffer of Stevens; Ken, married to Brenda (Martin) Sauder of Narvon; Darla, married to Louis Martin of Huntingdon; Gary, married to Joyce (Zimmerman) Sauder of Stevens; and Jay, married to Ginny (Sensenig) Sauder of Denver; a foster son: Shawn, married to Danae (Sanchez) Slaymaker of Blue Ball; 30 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; nine brothers and sisters: Minerva Bowman of New Holland; Eugene, married to Grace Sauder of Ephrata; Harry, married to Anna Sauder of New Holland; Charles, Jr., married to Mary Sauder of New Holland; Lois, married to Mike Zehr of Indiana; Nancy Esbenshade of Carbondale; Eunice, married to Marvin Eastman of Texas; Leon, married to Kari Sauder of Montoursville; and Elvin, married to Marilyn Sauder of East Earl.
Preceding him in death is a sister: Elaine Risser.
Funeral services will be held April 17 at 2 p.m. at Lichty's Mennonite Church, 1690 Union Grove Road, East Earl with the Bishop Duane Weber officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Viewing will be held on Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m.
