Joan R. Sipe, 74, teacher, Rec. Aux., ABWA member

Joan R. Sipe, 74, of Ephrata, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy.

She was born in Stouchsburg to the late Raymond and Pearl (Keller) Noble and was the wife of the late Lamar G. Sipe.

Joan worked as an elementary school teacher for the Lebanon School District for 22 1/2 years. She was a 1956 graduate of Wilson High School and a 1961 graduate of Millersville State Teachers College. She was a member of the ABWA, Rec Center Auxiliary and Mt. Lebanon Fellowship. Joan enjoyed sports, especially watching her grandchildren, Florida spring training, Busch Gardens-Tampa Bay, Ocean City, N.J. and Williamsburg, Va. She also enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.

Joan is survived by three sons: Robert L., husband of Beth (Hornberger) Sipe of Ephrata; John D. Sipe, companion of Erma Morgan of Akron; Thomas N. Sipe of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter: Lizabeth R., husband of Jeffrey A. Murry of Denver; seven grandchildren: Derek, Carlee, Leah, Jennifer, Brady, Ethan and Matthew; and two step grandchildren: Aubree and Leann.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson: Riley and a sister: Sandra Kline.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Stradling Funeral Home, 201 Church Ave., Ephrata. Funeral services will be held May 3, at 11 a.m. at the Christ Presbyterian Church, 1300 W. Maple Street, Lebanon, with Rev. John Barlow officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in the Moravian Cemetery, Lititz.
