Edwin W. Wise, 87, WW II vet, Haldeman plumber

Edwin W. Wise, 87, formerly of Reinholds, passed away Monday, May 13, at Fairmount Homes, Ephrata.

He was born in Ephrata Township to the late Frank A. and Bertha S. (Weinhold) Wise and was the husband of Betty J. (Bennetch) Wise, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.

Edwin was a member of Swamp Christian Fellowship Church, Reinholds. He enjoyed collecting postcards, doing scrapbooks and puzzles. He had been an active member of the Reinholds Lion Club and a member of the Cocalico Post #3376 V.F.W. 141. In earlier years, he enjoyed hiking and was a Phillies fan. A plumber for 32 years, he worked for Frank L. Haldeman and Sons of Manheim, following retirement he worked for Direct Wire and Cable, Denver.

A veteran of WW II, he served in the U.S. Army, 42nd Rainbow Division of the 232nd Regimental Battalion Anti-Tank Division.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: Linda Sue, wife of Robert Mull, Jr. of Lancaster; David Lee Wise of Lebanon; Teresa K. Brookover of Jessup, Md.; three grandchildren; one step grandchild; four great-grandchildren and eight siblings: Ruth Redcay of Ephrata; Paul Wise of Ephrata; Luke Wise of Ephrata; Martin Wise of Akron; June, wife of Abe Shrom of Ephrata; Rose, wife of Carmen Peters of Ephrata; Shirley, wife of Sylvan Gehman of Ephrata; and Betty, wife of David Martin of Stevens.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Vernon W. Wise and Leroy Wise; and a sister: Lavern Wise.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut St., Denver. An additional viewing will be held on Friday, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by funeral services held at 10 a.m., with Pastor Craig Snow officiating. Interment will take place in Swamp Cemetery, Reinholds. Military honors will be accorded by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard.
