Joyce L. Brendle, 80, kept books for family business; founded Ladies Auxiliary

Joyce L. "Tootsie" Brendle, 80, of Denver, died Friday, July 19, 2013, in Ephrata Community Hospital.

Born in Fivepointville, a daughter of the late Walter G. and Salome M. (Leed) Sprecher, her husband of 55 years, Marvin "Sparky" Brendle, died June 27, 2010.

A member of Muddy Creek Lutheran Church, she was bookkeeper for her husband's masonry business. Tootsie was founder and past president of Fivepointville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and a volunteer ambulance attendant. Her family was her world and she loved quilting, playing cards and baking; especially her chocolate cake with peanut butter icing.

Surviving are daughters: Kimberly Lee, wife of Randl J. Roth and Jill Salome, wife of Gerald L. Hartranft, both Denver; grandchildren: Jason R. Roth and Lindsey S. Hartranft; sister: Brenda Ann Mumma, Lititz and brother: LaMar, husband of Thelma (Lane) Sprecher, Denver. Siblings: Kathleen Witmer, Jean Shimp, Arlington, Harold and Robert Lee Sprecher predeceased her.

A memorial celebration of Tootsie's life will be held July 25 at 10 a.m. from Muddy Creek Lutheran Church, 11 S. Muddy Creek Rd., Denver, PA 17517, with her pastor, The Rev. Robert A. Kramer, officiating.Private inurnment in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Adamstown.

Rather than flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the church's Memorial Fund.
