Mabel W. Martin, 83, of the Mennonite Home, Lancaster, formerly of East Earl, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2013 at Lancaster General Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Ephrata, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Emma (Weber) Shirk. Her husband, Noah W. Martin, died July 10, 1995.
Mabel was a homemaker most of her life but from 1981 to 2007 she worked as a sales clerk at the former Hayloft Fabric in Morgantown. She was a member of the Bowmansville Mennonite Church, and she enjoyed bowling, drawing, quilting and playing games. She also enjoyed getting together at her home with her family every Sunday evening.
Surviving are seven children: Earl, married to Margaret (Zimmerman) Martin of Goodville; Marian, married to Dale Martin of Ephrata; Glenn, married to Carolyn (Shirk) Martin of New Holland; James S., married to Beverly (Good) Martin of Ephrata; Mervin, married to Glenda (Horst) Martin of Bowmansville, Shirley, married to Glenn Zimmerman of Stevens, and Roy L., married to Susan (Buohl) Martin of Ephrata; 15 grandchildren; a sister: Eva Nolt of Lititz and a brother: Frank Shirk of Ephrata.
Preceding her in death is a son, Michael L. Martin, and 16 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held Aug. 23, at the Bowmansville Mennonite Church, 129 Pleasant Valley Road, East Earl with the Reverend Larry Weber, the Bishop Carl Sensenig, and the Reverend Duane Ringler officiating. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery.
