John D. Weinhold, 78, of Ephrata, passed away Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at his residence.
He was born in Rapho Township to the late Daniel R. and Martha E. (Landis) Weinhold and was the husband of Anna R. (Zimmerman) Weinhold. The couple would have been married 58 years Sept. 24, 2013.
John was a member of the Ephrata Mennonite Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher, church chorister and custodian. He was a self-employed painter and paper hanger for 53 years. He was one of the founders and caretakers of the Woodcrest Retreat, and also volunteered his time at Material Resources Center of MCC and was a member and past officer of the Lincoln Volunteer Fire Co. He enjoyed camping and traveling. He was a great father, a mighty man of God and known for his wit.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 3 daughters, Ann L., wife of Jesse Balmer of Ephrata, Karen M. wife of John Weiler of Ephrata, N. Jean, wife of Steve Olivo of Reading; a son, Gerald L., husband of Debra (Eberly) Weinhold of Reinholds; 19 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a brother, D. Ernest, husband of Evaleen (Ranck) Weinhold of Manheim; a sister, Esther M. Good Gehman of Ephrata.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Edith A. Keener.
A viewing will be held Thursday, August 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ephrata Mennonite Church, 510 Stevens Rd., Ephrata. An additional viewing will be held on Friday, August 30, from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by his funeral service at 10 a.m., with Pastors Jack Scandrett and Jeffrey High officiating. Interment will take place in the Indiantown Mennonite Cemetery, Clay Township.
