Nancy C. Gouse, Rothsville postmaster, seamstress

Nancy C. Gouse, 81, of Manheim, passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at Pleasant View Retirement Community.

She was born in Rothsville to the late Woodrow and Luella (Koehler) Adams and was the wife of the late Russel R. Gouse who passed away in 2010.

Nancy had been a member of the Manheim Red Rose Lutheran Church. She was a 1950 graduate of Warwick High School. Nancy was a postmaster in Rothsville in the early '50s, she also worked at various sewing factories and later retired from Donegal Industries. She volunteered with her late husband at the Manheim Farm Show, was a member of the Hope Fire Engine and Hose Company #1 and Turtle Island of Chataqua. She was an experienced seamstress, she loved sewing and crafts and quilt making for her daughter's mission trips and family and friends. She collected porcelain dolls and penguin items. She enjoyed doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles and her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children: Thayne R., husband of Heather (Brantley) Gouse of Lititz; Stephanie, wife of David P. Heisey Sr. of Manheim; Melanie, wife of Jeff L. Snader of Lititz; grandchildren: Heather, wife of Jamie Miller; David P. Heisey Jr.; Amanda, wife of Justin Scholl; Dakota S. Gouse; great-grandchildren: Douglas Heller, Melinda Miller and Rylie Scholl; nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother.

A funeral was held Nov. 14 at Stradling Funeral Home, Akron, with Rev. Stevin L. Hoffman officiating. Interment took place in the Rothsville Lutheran Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at Pleasant View Retirement Community and Hospice staff for their mother's care.
